Melanie Smith

When Melanie is not immersed in her newfound love of improv, she is working at her hair salon The Cutting Room, forcing her love onto cute animals or trying to finish a scarf she started knitting back in 2012. After graduating from Mercy High School, Melanie became a hairstylist just like her 5-year-old self predicted. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she received further training in hair and makeup for film at Makeup Designory. Her interest in improv began while living in Los Angeles after attending many Groundlings shows. When not in her salon, Melanie enjoys photography or doing hair and makeup on film sets, music videos or backstage at the Orpheum. Some of her favorite jobs have been working on Alexander Payne's feature film "Nebraska," Lady Gaga's "You and I" music video, the Broadway musicals "Wicked" and "Phantom of the Opera" and working with the band First Aid Kit on their albums The Lion’s Roar and Stay Gold. She is so happy she found Big Canvas and is excited to be a new member of the Radio in the Dark team!
